Experience the Magic of Animation in Africa: French Embassies, Annecy, and Mollo Academy Offer Exciting Opportunities for Animators on the Continent in 2023

January 6, 20233 min read

Animation in Africa is growing in leaps and bounds and the French Embassy is facilitating some interesting moves.

The French Embassies in Africa are making a strong effort to promote cooperation and cultural affairs, as evidenced by the France-Ghana Animation Days last year and the upcoming Animation Nigeria, Annecy, MIFA workshop.

Last year’s France-Ghana Animation Days, brought Accra’s animation family together with their French animation counterparts over three days. The event offered patrons panel discussions, screenings, and masterclass sessions and ended with an exciting and inspiring pitch competition for a spot at Annecy this year.

This year is already off to a good start in this regard. The French Embassy in Nigeria is collaborating with Annecy, MIFA, and Institut Francais to hold a co-production project workshop in Lagos – open to all citizens and residents of Nigeria.

The goal is to get up to 6 projects into a workshop in Lagos between April 3rd & 6th 2023, with the support of Animation Nigeria. All are entitled to submit their projects for short films, feature films, tv series or specials and the deadline for all project submission is the 1st of February 2023.

Led by experienced animators, marketplace experts, funding experts and producers, attendees will have the opportunity to develop valuable skills, learn the basics of animation and get guidance and support as they create their own films and network with other aspiring animators and professionals in the industry.

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn, create, and connect with others who share a passion for animation in Nigeria.

For more information about the Animation Nigeria, Annecy, MIFA workshop and submission details applicants can send queries to nigeriamifaworkshop2022@gmail.com and for submission regulations should check out http://bit.ly/annecymifanigeria2023.

Mollo Animation Academy opportunity to grow animation in Africa

In a similar vein, the Tshimologong Wits University, Mollo Animation Academy and Studio, and the French Embassy in Ghana are also calling for applicants for their annual 12-month intensive paid internship animation workshop in Johannesburg.

These opportunities provide a platform for emerging talents to hone their skills and build the animation industry in Africa, while expressing authentic African identity through their work. This is done through panel discussions, screenings, and masterclasses, as well as pitch their own projects for the chance to be selected for further development.

Don’t miss out on the chance to learn, create, and connect with others in the animation community – submit your projects by February 1, 2023 for the Animation Nigeria workshop, and apply by January 30, 2023 for the Mollo Animation Academy internship.
